    Incorporating role definitions into SMART goal settings
    SMART goals are specific, measurable, achievable, reasonable and time bound. SMARTer goals are not only specific, measurable, achievable, reasonable and time bound, but also engaging and rewarding. However, based of my own experience, I can say that, when setting goals and conducting subsequent performance reviews, it is not only helpful to agree on an odd number of goals and to always use SMART goal formulations, but also to explicitly define your role for each goal.

    SMARTe Ziele sind spezifisch, messbar, attraktiv (im Sinne erreichbar), realistisch und terminiert. SMARTer-e Ziele sind nicht nur spezifisch, messbar, attraktiv (im Sinne erreichbar), realistisch, terminiert, sondern auch motivierend (engaging) und belohnend (rewarding). Auf Basis eigener Erfahrung kann ich jedoch sagen, dass es im Rahmen einer Zielvereinbarung (und späteren) Leistungsbeurteilung nicht nur hilfreich ist, eine ungerade Anzahl von Zielen zu vereinbaren und nicht nur hilfreich stets SMART-e Zielformulierungen zu verwenden, sondern darüber hinaus auch die eigene Rollendefinition für das jeweilige Ziel explizit festzuhalten.
